Annie Gervasi was born in Tunis, Tunisia, in 1950. She obtained an engineer's status in the garment technical industries, coupled with a BA in Commercial studies in Marseille, France at the CETHI (Centre d’études techniques de l’habillement de l’industrie) (70-74) and refined her creative talent in the clothing industry at the Lycée technique Marie Curie (67-70). Coming from a family who was promoting Haute Couture, Annie Gervasi first chooses the vocation of self-entrepreneur and launched her own boutiques to showcase her designs. She created her own label, “Nelly Malone” and owned two boutiques located in Marseille and Bandol (78-93). She remained at the emerging edge of fashion and from 1982 to 1985 was accredited to create the whole Yves Saint-Laurent Junior ready-to-wear collection.

In her art work, Annie Gervasi launches her sketches directly with the spatula on paper with the inspiration of the moment in its environmental context. These sketches are oil paintings by their own rights, first in small formats, and are often exploratory studies for the execution of larger works on canvas. Her palette always starts with bright colors and she accumulates layers of paint till it gets to a heavy impasto of very luminous white, beige, yellow, pale blue and pink.

The artist believes that the universe is pure energy. The most comfortable way to see this energy is to cultivate our perception of beauty and to get in resonance with the one of an object, a plant or a person. It is to stay connected within this energy, at a precise moment, in order to be part of this magical instant that brought Annie Gervasi to paint. This becomes indispensable for her to become co-creator.

Annie Gervasi surprises the shapes and forms in their mobility rather than immobilizing them. The colours, the shapes and the matter are translated under vibratory waves. It is the broadcast of all these waves that brings forward this sensation of well-being, accompanied by a feeling of joy, lightness and peace.
