Description: 4th of July by Louis Hughes is a neo-expressionist northern Quebec scene. It depicts a group of white geese gathering together: some are taking their full flight while others rest on the ground nearby a pond. The green round stylized trees of the background of the composition suggest a scene from a warm Summer day. Rhythm and movement are accentuated by a vibrant black dripping that outlines all the elements and is typical of the artist's technique. The work is executed in a palette of different shades of pale orange and pale blue, green, black and white.
