Berge Missakian, SCA was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1933. Aside from his studies in Humanities, Missakian has completed a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada (1980) and also has a Diploma from the Bureau of Cartooning, Colorado Springs, USA (1974).

In his oeuvre, Missakian creates vibrant pictorial shallow, almost flat, spaces populated by two dimensional objects whose existence is justified by the artist's passion for jazz - his famous series "Non Stop Jazz"- his skilful composition and his daring ability with colour. The whole is an invitation to partake on the pleasures of life.

Missakian has been exhibiting his work with much success since the late 1970s. The artist has been awarded significant prizes in Canada and the United States and his works are exhibited and collected around the world. A series of large canvas on the theme of the Armenian genocide - 15 works - executed in 1985, has been acquired recently, in 2002, by the museum institution The Armenian Library and the Museum of America in Watertown, MA, USA.
